The Niners were a little short-handed Saturday night when they faced off against division foe Seattle Seahawks. They were missing a few key players and were a FG underdog at home, something which doesn’t happen very often. Their offense looked anemic against Seattle’s defense and just when things were starting to look interesting in the 4th quarter, they turned the ball over to seal their fate.
On the line was the #1 seed in the playoff and home field advantage throughout the playoffs, including the Super Bowl which will be played in SF. They also missed out on a first round by which would have worked wonders for their banged-up team. Now the Niners have slid down the odds sheet and are not anywhere near the top.
Seattle didn’t play a great game on offense. They scored just 13 points, but the Seahawks defense made that irrelevant. This Seattle D isn’t quite the “Legion of Boom” but they are damned good.
With the Seahawks earning the first round bye and home field advantage, they just secured their spot atop the sportsbook odds sheet as well.
If you look at these odds, there are more teams than can fit into the playoffs. That’s because Sunday’s games will settle who goes where and which teams get booted.
