Texans Look Toward Playoffs After 0-3 Start

odds of Texans making playoffs after week 12

The Texans started the season 0-3 with losses to 3 good teams. Their losses were to the Rams, the Bucs and the Jags, all three of which look to be playoff bound. They then got into an easier stretch in their schedule. They defeated the hapless Titans, a Ravens team sans Lamar Jackson, and after a tough loss to Seattle, they came back to beat the 49ers.

After a close 18-15 loss to Denver, the Texans reeled off three straight wins. They were able to get a revenge win against Jax, another win against the dismal Titans, and then a big win last night against the Bills. Now, after going 0-3, the Texans have a winning 6-5 record.

Several weeks ago, their odds of making the playoffs were paying somewhere around +650 at SportsBetting sportsbook. As of this morning that number is all the way down to +155.

The Texan’s defense has been the true star of the show. They are ranked first in total yards allowed per game and points allowed. Houston has 3 of the 6 wins with a career backup in David Mills and starting QB C.J. Stroud is expected to make his return next week against the Colts.

It’s actually unfortunate timing for Stroud as the Colts are probably the best team the Texans will face so far this season. If the Texans lose this game, there will most certainly be rumbling about whether or not Davis Mills should be QB1 going forward.

Whatever happens one thing is for certain. Texans fans have been on a bit of a rollercoaster this season and have high hopes in making the playoffs for the third straight year. They love the defense and running game but still have lingering doubts about the QB position.

In my opinion, the Texans are not good enough to win it all but are a team that nobody wants to play and could play spoiler for conference foes. They are a very physical football team who will batter and bruise opposing players, leaving them a little less fit to play out the rest of the season.
